As part of our partnership with Pride in Sport, GameDay is proud to announce that our products will soon support the collection of gender identity data across the product suite wherever gender data is collected.

This will support the great work that organisations such as Pride in Sport in Australia are doing to make sport more inclusive for the LGBTQ+ community, along with its founding partners and member organisations, many of which are our major customers – click here for a list of member organisations.

The first phase of this implementation will see updated terminology and input fields to better capture information, as well as represent and include people of diverse genders and sexualities. It will also integrate more inclusive gender identity fields into applicable registration forms, member lists, member profile screens, reports and dashboards. These changes have been scoped in accordance with Pride in Sport recommended sexuality and gender indicators guidelines available here: https://www.prideinsport.com.au/psi-support/

Below is a more detailed outline of what this implementation will cover:
  • Update terminology for existing Gender field to: Assigned Gender at Birth
    • Question Guidance to be added: What sex were you assigned at birth (ie. what was specified on your original birth certificate)
    • Answer Options:
      • Male
      • Female
  • Create a new field wherever Gender is asked with the field name to be: Gender Identity
    • Question Guidance to be added: Which of the following best describes your current gender identity
    • Answer Options:
      • Male
      • Female
      • Non-binary/gender fluid
      • Different Identity
      • Prefer not to say
  • Where Different Identity has been selected, a text response field will become available for the participant to enter this information
  • Integrate the Assigned Gender at Birth & Gender Identity fields into applicable registration forms, member lists, member profile screens, reports & dashboards

These changes will initially be rolled out on GameDay (Membership &  Events) and Passport (Membership & Programs) in the coming weeks and will look to also implement this on our Classic Membership system later in 2021.

Mark Pititto, Senior Product Manager at GameDay says “We’re a proud partner of Pride in Sport and a big believer in making sport as inclusive as possible for all participants including the LGBTQ+ community.”

“Making the everyday tools & systems that our sport & event customers utilise to support that inclusivity is a big step in the right direction to making sport & recreation events more inclusive and supporting the participation of the LGBTQ+ community in these activities”.

Beau Newell, National Program Manager at Pride in Sport said: “Sport has a unique ability to drive and support social change and these moves by GameDay to support the inclusion of all people who play sport further adds to a growing commitment to ensure the genuine diversity and inclusiveness of sport.”
“The introduction of more inclusive gender indicators demonstrates a vital change within Australian sport towards the greater inclusion of trans and gender diverse participants. By rolling out these indicators across their platforms, GameDay have shown a true and tangible commitment to providing a more welcoming and inclusive experience for the trans and gender diverse community” Newell said.
